I don’t know about you, but I love when my house smells good (obviously) but not just good, I love when it smells like the the seasons, if that makes sense!
If it’s summer, I want my house smelling like pineapples!
If it’s fall, I want my house smelling like pumpkins!
Christmas comes once a year, so instead of buying a candle that you definitely won’t be able to burn and will have to be stored away in a cupboard for the rest of the year, make your own scents! Here are some festive ways you can create that “Christmas smell” at home, for as long or as short as you want!
1. Scented Pine Cones
The smell of pine cones alone can give that winter smell, but lets spice it up a bit!
Collect pine cones from outside, heat them at 250°F for 20 minutes to thoroughly clean them.
Once they’ve dried, put some of your favorite festive essential oils on them!
For example scents like pine, cinnamon, spearmint, or nutmeg would be great scents to make these cones smell even more cozy for the holidays!
Once the oils are on the cones, leave in a bag for about a week to seal in the scent.
Next, take them out and place them in a bowl in the open for all the smell!
It’s a super inexpensive way of creating an inviting smell into your home.
If you don’t have essential oils, or want more then click here and there’s even a pre-made blend called the Cinnamon Spice Reed Diffuser if your looking for amazing smelling essential oils like the amazing smells mentioned today!
2. Winter Potpourri
Collect some cinnamon sticks, oranges, and apples, place them into a jar of choice.
These smells together will create a warm scent that will fill up your whole home.
3. Simmering Potpourri
Much like the last idea, your going to place a bunch of items together to create an amazing scent. Only this time, your going to be simmering this on a pot.
Mix different scents like cinnamon, cloves, ginger, cranberries, and clippings of pine into a bowl filled with water.
Bring to boil and let the pot filled with scents simmer throughout the day.
This will make your home smell like Christmas in no time, it’s perfect for when your hosting
Some other scent combination ideas are:
• Lemon, rosemary and vanilla simmer
• Pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg and 3 cinnamon sticks
• Coffee beans, 3 cinnamon sticks and 1 teaspoon allspice berries
• Pure Frankincense is another holiday scent that’s also super unique, view it here
You’ll need a handful of oranges and a can of cloves (in photo below).
Cloves are naturally pointy, so your going to want to poke holes into the oranges, using the cloves!
These not only will combine the two scents to create a Christmas scent but they also look great as decoration as well!
5. Hang Sage

All you need is fresh sage and ribbon!
Tie sage together and hang the sage in different areas of the home, not only does it smell amazing but it looks pretty too!
